• Saw Palmetto Berry
This popular herb has been clinically shown to reduce the symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP) or enlarged prostate, such as difficulty in urinating, weak urine stream, urine retention, and dribbling.

Saw palmetto is widely used in Europe for prostate health, for example it is used in 50% and 90% of treatment for BHP in Italy and Germany, respectively.

While the exact mechanism of saw palmetto's benefits to prostate health is unknown, it is thought that the fatty acid sterols found in the berry extract has anti-inflammatory activity and can block dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and protect the prostate epithelial cells - without harmful side effects.

In an article in 2003, the American Family Physician reaffirmed the efficacy of saw palmetto berry's for prostate health, saying that it appears to be as effective as finasteride, is better tolerated, and less expensive.

• African Pygeum Bark
The bark of the African pygeum or plum tree has been traditionally used as treatment for the discomfort of prostate problems.

In review of 44 clinical trials of African pygeum bark, it is found that this herb can improve the symptoms of BHP, including hesitancy, weak urine stream, night-time dribbling and the feeling that the bladder is not completely empty after urination.

• Zinc
Since men lose zinc in every semen emission, this mineral is often lacking in men. Indeed, zinc deficiency has been linked to prostate enlargement.

How effective is zinc? A Cook County Hospital study has shown that in over 5,000 patients, zinc can prevent prostate enlargement and help inflammed prostates.

• Selenium
Selenium is a mineral that is needed by enzymes that protect the body against oxidants, chemicals that can cause cell damage and cancer.

In study published in International Journal of Cancer, it is found that selenium can reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer by 30%.

• L-Alanine, L-Glutamine, and L-Glycine Amino Acids
When used in combination, these amino acids can effectively reduce prostate inflammation and swelling. In a study reported in the Journal of Maine Medical Association, 40 men with BHP showed improvement after just 3 months course of taking alanine, glutamine, and glycine.

• Pumpkin Seed
