Description: * SleepFit™

Fiber35 Diet SleepFit™ contains valerian root, hops extract, 5-HTP and other natural ingredients that help support restful sleep.

The Fiber35 Diet's SleepFit™ ingredients are:

  • NIACIN
Niacin, a part of the B vitamin family, has helped many people to relax and get to sleep more quickly at night due its role in synthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin is thought to play an important role not only in sleep, but also in mood, sexuality and appetite. Niacin also helps reduce anxiety and depression and is known for its ability to dilate blood vessels, creating a “niacin flush,” characterized by a temporary blushing of the skin and a sensation of warmth.

  • CALCIUM
This mineral helps the brain convert the amino acid tryptophan to melatonin, a natural hormone that can make you sleepy. Calcium has a calming effect upon the brain. It is important not only for it’s role in supporting natural sleep cycles, but it is also needed for strong bones, a regular heartbeat, the transmission of nerve impulses and the body’s ability to use iron.

  • MAGNESIUM
Magnesium deficiency, common in the U.S., can result in a number of disorders, including heart disease and arrhythmias, constricted arteries, high blood pressure, muscle spasms, weak bones and sleeping difficulties. If you suffer from restless sleep or wake up frequently during the night, you may be deficient in this important mineral. Studies show that magnesium deficiency can produce sleeplessness by altering electrical activity in the brain.

  • PASSION FLOWER
This herb has been used traditionally in treatment of stress and anxiety. Its mild sedative effect makes it a useful sleep aid, as substantiated by numerous animal and human studies. Passion Flower has been approved by the German Commission E in the treatment of insomnia and nervousness. It has also been used traditionally as a diuretic and in respiratory, circulatory and menopausal disorders.

  • VALERIAN ROOT
This herb has been used traditionally as a sleep aid and mild sedative, as well as with spasms, seizures, headaches and heart palpitations. Numerous studies have shown that use of valerian extract has resulted in a statistically significant reduction in time required to fall asleep, as well as improvement in sleep quality and decrease in number of nighttime awakenings. It has been found that two of its constituents can bind to the same receptor sites in the brain as benzodiazepine drugs.

  • HOPS
Hops, the herb that imparts the bitter taste to beer, has been used traditionally for nervous disorders, to allay anxiety and as a sedative to promote sleep. Animal studies confirm its efficacy with regard to sleep, though its mode of action is not yet understood. Most human studies on hops have investigated the combined effect of the herb with that of others, such as hops or valerian, making it difficult to separate the effects of one herb from another, though it does appear that hops may increase the sedation effect produced by these herbs. Hops additionally has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and estrogen-like properties.

  • INOSITOL
Inositol, another B vitamin, is a fat emulsifier that may help in brain cell nutrition. It also promotes healthy skin and hair and, due to its anti-anxiety effect, has been used as a sleep aid. Inositol’s regulation of serotonin may also account for its effect of combating both anxiety and insomnia. It is known for enhancing REM sleep, the deep kind characterized by rapid eye movements.

  • LEMON BALM
Lemon balm, a member of the mint family, has been used since the Middle Ages to aid sleep and digestion, improve appetite and reduce pain, stress and anxiety. Studies have shown the efficacy of lemon balm, used in combination with valerian, for improving the quality of sleep. In fact, this combination has been found to be comparable to that of the sleep-inducing drug Halcion.

  • 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan)
5-HTP is a direct precursor to serotonin, the neurotransmitter (brain chemical) that plays an important role in sleep. Supplemental amounts of 5-HTP therefore raise serotonin levels, and thereby aid sleep. Because of the many regulatory functions that serotonin serves in the body, supplementing it can have the net effect of assisting in weight loss, controlling sugar cravings, alleviating depression, headaches and muscle aches, as well as helping to overcome insomnia.

  • CHAMOMILLE
Chamomille has long been used to reduce anxiety and aid sleep due to its mild sedative properties. One of its chemical components, chrysin, is thought to be responsible for these effects. Chrysin is also found in Passion Flower. Chamomille is also of potential use with allergic reactions, as it reduces swelling caused by excess histamine production.

  • SKULLCAP
Skullcap has been used traditionally for nervous tension, depression and insomnia. It is a mild sleep enhancer that is often formulated in combination with Valerian in herbal sleep aids. Skullcap also has been used to improve circulation, strengthen the heart and relieve muscle cramps, spasms and pain.
